Factors determining effective cooperation of companies with scientific-research units

The goal of this article is to present and analyse factors which influence the success of cooperation between science and business. An inspiration for this article were the results of research conducted in 2015-2016 by a scientific team of Warsaw Management School. The research concerned the problem of low level of innovativeness of Polish economy. The purpose of the research was to identify the obstacles for innovativeness resulting from flawed policies of the state, companies’ activities and actions taken by scientific-research institutions. On the basis of obtained conclusions recommendations concerning possible solutions that could allow to change the unfavourable situation, that is, the level of Polish innovativeness have been prepared. This article will discuss only the results of research that concerned the issues of cooperation of science and business. Next, the author’s further deliberations will focus on one of the key reasons for the low level of cooperation of the two environments, namely, the problem with communication and building relationships. The summary presents suggested solutions that could support both communities in establishing and developing cooperation.

Piotr Mikosik, Ph.D., Warsaw Management University, Poland – academic teacher with 18 years of experience, he deals with strategic management and employee development. He gained business experience as, among others, a consultant in the international consulting company IMPAC SYSTEMS and as a member of the management of an IT company – Intercon. Moreover, he is a management coach and he holds the certificate of ICC (International Coaching Community). He has trained, among others, the management of KGHM, Bank Spółdzielczy in Skierniewice, Telewizja Polska, representatives of public administration in Warmia-Mazury voivodeship, of the management of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź.
